| Welcome to our
Parish website. We hope that you will find something here that both
intrigues and encourages you to learn more about us and maybe to visit
us in person.
St. John's is
a thriving and growing parish. We are blessed with many young people
who not only enjoy each other and their strong leadership - which
has now grown to five leaders - but also enjoy serving, worshiping
and learning more about God and how he works in their lives. The
Youth Group recently went on a mission to Ocean City, New Jersey,
and one young man represented our parish in a Diocesan mission trip
to the Dominican Republic. During the Easter season of 2007 eight
young people were confirmed at Christ Church Cathedral.
Our parish has
a fairly young median age, and we are also blessed with quite a
few multi-generational families that have grown up in our parish.
How beautiful it is to see grandparents, parents and grandchildren
all attending Sunday Services together.
Our Sunday School
- up to 5th grade, is also vibrant and involved. Following church
school the children join their families for the Holy Eucharist,
prior to which they join the Vicar for a Children's Homily, or a
Gathering of the Children as we call it! Each week, the young children
look forward to taking up the collection of food for the Talbot's
Food Pantry.
Our parish continues
to grow, welcoming both young and the not so young. In April of 2007
at our last Newcomers Dinner we welcomed 35 new members. What a
delightful evening this was.
We are dedicated
to mission and continue to participate in the cooking and serving
of meals at the Soup Kitchen, an ecumenical project. The young people
also take leadership in this at least two or three times a year.
We are excited
to have begun a new parish ministry ~ a Parish Nurses Ministry ~
which is going to be an extension of our desire to have a full caring
ministry for the people of our church. We have two registered nurses
and two licensed practical nurses who have taken on the leadership
of this ministry. They are ready to help all those who need them,
doing regular blood pressure screenings and at home help.
All of our staff
and lay leaders have undergone Safe Church Training and well as
youth leaders, Sunday School teachers and Vestry members. This has
been a wonderful learning experience for each one of them.
Our Vicar Audrey,
who joined us in June of 2006, is supportive of all our ministries
and continues to look forward to leading us as we continue to learn
together more of the all-encompassing love of God in our own lives,
in our parish, in our community and in the wider world. We are a
welcoming community, excited about our journey of faith together
and we hope that you will consider joining us for worship and maybe
a cup of coffee after our service. We look forward to meeting you
and welcoming you to our parish family
